Following our successful week of wins against Olympiacos and Aston Villa, Arsene Wenger hailed our team spirit and claimed this is exactly what the fans want to see.

Something Arsenal fans often found hard to take when we lost wasn’t the poor result itself but the poor performance. Sometimes we’d play as if we just couldn’t be bothered or didn’t care and it really got under our skin.

Now, we’re showing more fight than ever and it’s hugely encouraging to see.

After we beat Villa and claimed top of the Premier League table on Sunday, Wenger acknowledged this team spirit, saying, “I’m very proud and happy of the spirit we show. That’s what people want to see. There’s a strength and togetherness coming out of the team that people feel and that’s the biggest satisfaction. It’s the best basis to make results.”

The boss is right. Spirit and fight is exactly what we want to see. In the past, we’ve drawn or even lost but the players have still received a standing ovation, purely because of the passion they showed. If the players care, it makes us care even more. If that’s possible.
