Arsene Wenger has asked his players to look at themselves after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat in the league to West Brom.

The match, which most of us, including Arsenal, want to forget as quickly as possible, ended 2-1 after we went a goal ahead in the first half thanks to a Giroud header, and we soon gifted them two goals thanks to strange defending and an own goal. A penalty miss from Cazorla prevented us from getting on equal terms.

Despite having quite a bit of bad luck on the day, the boss still believes the team need to look at themselves and think about why this happened. Why did we give them to opportunity to come back into the game and, more importantly, win it?

“The result does not reflect the game but we have to look at ourselves,” Wenger said.

“I think at 1-0 up we became a little too easy and the equaliser they scored sums it up well, they didn’t even need to have the ball.”

He added, “We had 72 per cent possession and if you lose it you have to look at yourself and think what happened to us.”

I’m still in two minds about whether to feel disappointed by the result or whether to just put on my big girl pants and move on. On one hand, we were unlucky, that’s undeniable, but we also were far from our best. Sure, we’re missing players through injury but the calibre of men we still had on the pitch should be performing a lot better than we were.
