Former Arsenal man and current Corinthians Director of Football, Edu, has admitted that he recently had lunch with Arsene Wenger in which he asked about former Milan youngster, Pato.

Arsenal have long been linked with the player who is now 26 and it would seem that ahead of the January transfer window opening, they could well be interested in actually bringing him back to Europe.

“I had lunch with Wenger and he asked both of Pato and other players,” Edu told a reporter.

Pato moved back to Brazil in 2013 when he signed for Corinthians but has been sent out on loan to Sao Paulo and would certainly offer a decent attacking option for Arsenal.

He has 38 goals in his 95 appearances for Sao Paulo so far. 2014 represented his best scoring season and the first time he netted over 20 goals in one campaign, grabbing 26 in 56 games.

During his time with Milan, he scored 63 in 150 appearances.

The fact that he is on loan could hint at Arsenal looking for short-term cover but there is no indication of what sort of deal the Gunners could be interested in, nor which other players Arsene Wenger enquired about.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Pato, so if Arsenal are interested, they will surely be hoping that Edu will be able to help seal the deal.
