Are Arsenal looking at singing Lorenzo Insigne?

Maybe? For all the depth at the club, there are no real replacements for Mesut Özil or Alexis Sánchez, should either of them suffer an injury.

According to his agent, Arsenal are seriously interested in the Napoli man.

“I read that Wolfsburg liked him but there was nothing concrete. Unlike some real offers from England,” said Fabio Andreotti, and Calciomercato think he is referring to interest from the Gunners.

The 24-year-old is a big talent but has hardly kicked on since he broke into the Napoli first team three years ago. The new season has started well for the midfielder but he will have to do a lot more to force Arsenal to offer the ridiculous sort of money Napoli would demand. They don’t sell cheap, and the player’s contract runs until 2019.

Having said that, Insigne’s attributes suit Arsenal’s needs. Arsène Wenger loves a playmaker and often balances his sides with a wide playmaker but doesn’t currently have one at his disposal, while Özil’s number 10 role is only really backed up by Tomas Rosicky, who is currently injured and turns 35 next month, so it’s fair to assume Arsenal will look for a natural playmaker again in the near future.

Insigne would make sense to Arsenal, but he’d surely cost far more than we’d be willing to pay.
