In an interview with German magazine kicker, Mesut Özil has spoken about the 2014/15 season, his injury, his ambition, and the German national team.

At Stamford Bridge last October Arsenal lost more than just the game, with Mesut Özil suffering a knee injury and facing three months on the sidelines.

The German hadn’t enjoyed a great start to the season following his World Cup win with Germany, but returned in scintillating fashion as The Gunners went on to end the season strongly and win the FA Cup.

Hardest

The injury saw Özil miss out for three months, something he isn’t used to.

“It was a very long season. I believe it was the hardest of my career,” said Özil.

“It was the first time in my career I had to process a heavy injury.

“The three months from October to January were a very hard time for me.”

It can’t be easy sitting out so much football when you don’t want to do anything but play.

Return

But he made up for it when he returned.

“I can be very pleased with the second half of the season.

“After those three months I wanted to show everyone that I was there again and that they can depend on me,” said the German.

“I was able to do that.”

You most certainly were.

Özil was terrific when he came back, and then constantly right until the end of May – his performance in the FA Cup Final was nothing short of superb.

“You could see on the pitch how much fun I have and how much I missed playing.”

Adored

Mesut Özil clearly adores the game.

And Arsenal fans adore their playmaker.

His moment of the season wasn’t the FA Cup win, but his first appearance after recovering from the knee injury that saw him miss three months.

“11th January at home against Stoke City, my first appearance after the injury.

“That the fans celebrated me when I was subbed on gave me a real boost once again.”

That special relationship with the fans isn’t a one-off.

“I’ve noticed: no matter what, the club and the fans stand behind me.”

Mesut Özil is a special player and has the full support of Arsenal fans everywhere, that much is certain.

Hopefully Özil can stay fit next season.

He is magic, and we are much better when he is available.
