According to a report in Spain, Barcelona are interested in signing Santi Cazorla.

Good for them.

Under a transfer ban, they’ll be signing no-one anytime soon, let alone our very own Spanish magician who has already said that he will be going nowhere this summer amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

Phew.

Barcelona fancy Santi as a Xavi replacement, at least in the interim, but we all know what happens when they sign Arsenal players – they create an almighty fuss until they get their man and then decide they didn’t really want him in the first place, treat him like crap and sell him a few years later to some hateful club that wears blue in West London.

But that’s not the scenario we will see this summer as Cazorla recently said

“I’m very happy at Arsenal and in the Premier League. feel loved and valued by both the team and supporters.

“Any news stories about me and Atletico Madrid are false. Currently I am just focused on Arsenal, I have two more years on my contract here and I hope to complete them.”

Admittedly, Barcelona are a very different proposition, but Santi is focused on helping Arsenal reach the heights of Barcelona, not leaving to join them.

“It is very important for us to win trophies, and now we are preparing ourselves for the next season, where we want to jump up in quality and hope to fight for the Premier League and go further in the Champions League.

“Hopefully Arsenal can in future reach as high as Barcelona. That’s the goal.

“Barcelona is the reference to the rest of world football and all of us want to be closer to them.”

Off you trot Barca, nothing for you here.
