Arsenal are apparently keeping tabs on Augsburg’s right-back Baba Rahman although reports seem largely unsubstantiated.

Word on the street – or the internet, as it’s otherwise known – is that we’re keeping our beady eyes on the defender. However, Chelsea seem to be favourites to sign the 20-year-old.

Despite this apparent interest, which seems to have magically sprouted from nowhere, the club’s manager, Stefan Reuter, is adamant the defender will be staying at Augsburg saying, “There is nothing concrete on our table with regard to Abdul Rahman Baba. We are very happy to have him at our club, we are delighted he is playing for our club.”

They’re reportedly asking for £14m for the Ghanaian. Yeah, in your dreams, pals.

I don’t need to tell you that there is probably nothing to this rumour. Right-back isn’t a position that immediately springs to mind when I think of us strengthening our squad. We have Mathieu Debuchy, who should be recovered by pre-season, Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin, who just had the season of his life, all available in that position. The idea we’d add to that seems a little far-fetched to say the least.
