With speculation in the media that Manchester City have their eyes on Jack Wilshere, Arsene Wenger spoke about his wish for the midfielder to remain at Arsenal.

In his press conference following our 4-1 win over West Bromich Albion at the Emirates, Wenger made it clear that he didn’t want Wilshere to go anywhere and didn’t seem aware that the player would be moving any time soon.

“He wants to stay at the club? I hope so!” He said. “He has been educated here and he’s Arsenal through and through. He and Kieran Gibbs are.

“He arrived at nine years of age and Gibbs at 12. You want them to be the future of the team and the core of the team.”

Wilshere scored his first goal against West Brom since the game against Manchester City at home and only his second for the whole season…and what a goal it was.

After dipping in and out of the team over the last few seasons due to injury, Wenger – and Wilshere – must be comforted by the midfielder’s last couple of performances in an Arsenal shirt. The 23-year-old is looking as if he’s quickly returning to form – just in time for the FA Cup final.

Has Wilshere done enough today to make a start next weekend? I’d imagine so, but with Wenger you can never tell.
