Calum Chambers looked to be getting some decent playing time under his belt before getting ill and Hector Bellerin stepping in.

Bellerin has gone on to impress and has therefore nudged Chambers onto the bench for the foreseeable future.

In the Daily Star, the Arsenal boss has been speaking about the young rightback and how he’s been affected by the recent changes and some of his earlier matches.

In particular, the boss mentioned the 2-1 loss away at Swansea City earlier in the season – a result we’re not looking to repeat.

“It did teach him. He’s an intelligent boy, he thinks about his game after – how he could have blocked him better, how he could have stopped the crosses and to read the game of your opponent is an important part for a defender,” he said.

On the red card Chambers received again Stoke – another loss we’d rather soon forget – the manager said it had affected the defender’s confidence.

“That’s a little bit difficult for him at the moment. But we all have to go through periods where we have to think. Everybody goes through that. He will learn and come out stronger.”

Unfortunately, the dent to the 20-year-old’s ego has stayed with him and Wenger believes this could affect the way he plays for England. Regarding the youngster’s debut, Wenger said, “It was a bit early. You remember the fact that he had a difficult time at Swansea. Now imagine that happens to him with England in a big game. It’s terrible afterwards. You carry that with you your whole life.”

Hopefully, all it will take is time and a bit of reassurance from the boss to get Chambers back to where he was.
