The Arsenal boss insists that his team aren’t affected by the pressure that comes with big matches – at least not anymore.

After a top notch 4-1 win against West Bromich Albion, who beat Chelsea 3-0 last Monday, Arsene Wenger spoke to the media and revealed how he no longer believes his team crumble under pressure.

“I don’t feel that we are affected too much by the pressure. We went to Manchester United in the FA Cup, we had to qualify in the Champions League,” he said.

In recent seasons, the Gunners have become known for not delivering in the bigger matches against the teams at the top of the table. However, this season, Wenger insists how the points we’ve dropped this season haven’t been down to pressure but instead, bad luck when it comes to injuries.

“If you look at the start of the season, we had too many injuries in the first part of the season. Since January we haven’t lost any points compared to all our opponents. We have made progress and we had our players back as well. You fight with top-level teams and it’s difficult.”

He also highlighted how competitive the top four is. He continued, “Liverpool were a point away from winning the league last year and they are not in the top four this year. To be in the top four is not easy. It always looks obvious but you have to fight.”

On how he intends to approach next season, he said, “I believe the ideal situation would be to start strong, stay strong and finish strong. That’s what Chelsea did and that’s why they won the championship, because they had a very strong start and even when they had a weaker period, they could grind some results out.”

Wenger has mentioned several times that he believes the key to success in the league is consistency – something that the title winners have had, no matter how well they were playing. Let’s hope we can work on this next season.
