Despite Arsene Wenger making it clear he’s not in the market for a defender this summer, Arsenal are still getting linked to random centrebacks.

This time, it’s Celtic’s centreback Virgil van Dijk (be careful pronouncing that one) who we’ve apparently been scouting and want to bring to the Emirates for a reported £10m (via Arsenal News although a fairly widespread rumour).

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with the player and the price is a lot more realistic than most players we’re apparently looking at but, price aside, Wenger has denied any and all interest in signing defenders – particularly centrebacks.

He believes we have enough and don’t need to strengthen in this area.

Also, when you look at the original source of the story, the Express, it actually seems as if Tottenham Hotspur, among a couple of other Premier League clubs, are the ones who are more likely to land the 23-year-old Dutchman for £10m and our name – as usual – has just been thrown in for good measure.

I usually use the phrase ‘never say never‘ in this sort of situation but, I think it’s safe to say that with this rumour: never.
