Arsenal icon George Eastham dies at 88. A trailblazer on and off the pitch, he redefined football’s transfer system and secured rights for players worldwide.
George Eastham played for Arsenal Football Club. The former English midfielder joined Arsenal from Newcastle in 1960. Eastham left Arsenal for Stoke City in 1966 for £35,000. In total, he made 223 appearances for Arsenal and scored 41 goals. Eastham wore the number 10 and the number 8 for Arsenal. He is well-known for helping reform the transfer market through his involvement in a 1963 court case that ended up improving a player’s freedom to move between clubs. Eastham was born on September 23, 1936.
