Arsenal academy product Seb Ferdinand made an appearance for Hornchurch FC in midweek, after leaving the Gunners in the summer.

Ex-Arsenal youth player Seb Ferdinand came to the end of his Gunners contract in June, and he’s been on the hunt for a new club over the last few months.
That search has taken him to National League side Hornchurch FC, and Ferdinand made an appearance for the side in a National League Cup game against the West Ham United u21s on Tuesday.
Ferdinand came on at half time with the scores level at 0-0, and he helped the team to a 2-0 win on the night.

It appears that Ferdinand’s inclusion was as part of a trial, as there’s no official confirmation that he’s signed for the club, and he isn’t currently listed in the squad on their website.
But with the game going well, there’s every chance the former Gunner will now be offered a contract at the English fifth-tier side.
After leaving Arsenal, Ferdinand admitted his exit took him “a while to process”, adding that Hale End and London Colney had been his “second home”, giving him “lifelong bonds and memories”.

Progression to the senior side is generally seen as the ultimate goal for academy players at the big clubs, especially for someone like Ferdinand with 46 u19 and u21 appearances for Arsenal under his belt.
It’s not easy to step back and go again, yet it’s also not impossible to rebuild your career after being released by a club like Arsenal. It often takes dropping down the divisions at first, but plenty of players have eventually worked their way back up.
Ferdinand is seemingly now on that pathway, and we wish him the best of luck.
