Hincapie fires shot at Van Dijk & Liverpool

Piero Hincapie has fired a shot back at Virgil van Dijk, following the Liverpool player’s social media post directed at Arsenal last season.

Posting after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw away to Arsenal in January, Virgil van Dijk shared a few photos on his Instagram page. The first was a black and white photo from the game, the third was a colour photo of the golden Premier League patch on his arm.

The message to Arsenal and the fans was pretty clear, a reminder of which team were the reigning champions. But Piero Hincapie seemed to take the post as a personal challenge.

The Gunners went on to become Premier League champions themselves, then won 1-0 away to Liverpool on Sunday.

After the match, Hincapie shared some pictures on Instagram, and the first was a black and white photo from the game, and the third was a colour photo of the golden Premier League patch on his arm.

To drive the point home, Hincapie added the caption: “I don’t forget…”

It’s good to see the Arsenal players taking the opportunity to revel in their own success a little. Bukayo Saka did the same thing earlier in the season after scoring the winner against Aston Villa, pointing to the golden badge and shouting: “This is our club, we’re champions.”

Arsenal have repeatedly been the subject of mockery from their rivals over their recent second-place finishes, but the Gunners are the reigning champions and three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

If they can’t give a little back right now, it’s hard to imagine when they will be able to.
