Arsenal youth trains with first-team amid senior international call-up

Arsenal youngster James Scanlon is having a good week, receiving call-ups to train with the Gunners first-team and to play with Gibraltar over the international break.

Ahead of Arsenal’s game against Hull City on Saturday, 20-year-old winger James Scanlon was spotted training with Mikel Arteta’s senior side on Friday.

Arsenal are obviously a little low on wingers at the moment, with Bukayo Saka out of action through injury and Max Dowman suspended. With Scanlon scoring three goals and assisting one in his first five Premier League 2 appearances for the Gunners, he’s earned a chance in training.

But that wasn’t the only boost for the former Manchester United winger this week, as he’s also been called up to the Gibraltar senior squad for the November break.

The international call-up isn’t surprising, as Scanlon has already made 28 appearances for Gibraltar in his young career.

In fact, Scanlon is currently the team’s second-top scorer of all time, with six goals. He only trails retired international Liam Walker, who scored eight during his international career.

The Arsenal man will get an opportunity to add to his total in Nations League fixtures away to Andorra and at home to Malta over the upcoming break.

With all that being said, it’s unlikely Scanlon receives a call-up for the Arsenal first-team squad for Saturday afternoon’s match against Hull City.

Though Arsenal are a little light in forward areas, Saka and Dowman are actually the only players in the entire senior squad expected to miss the game. Everyone else should be available, meaning very limited bench spaces for youth players, if any.
