Arsenal are among the clubs making enquiries over Lennart Karl’s situation at Bayern Munich, following critical comments on the player from honorary club president Uli Hoeneß.

Bayern Munich honorary club president Uli Hoeneß caused a stir in the media by criticising young talent Lennart Karl.
“I’m planning to have a serious talk with Lennart Karl,” Hoeneß said. “He’s far from being a superstar. The young players need humility. Comparisons to Olise are not doing him any good; there’s still a world of difference between them.”
Christian Falk has since reported for CF Bayern Insider that Premier League clubs have perked up at the comments, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United making calls to figure out if there might be an opportunity to sign Karl.

Falk adds that Hoeneß isn’t involved in the daily business at Bayern, and those who are remain very confident in the player. As it stands, they still want to keep him, and their injury situation means they’re relying on him.
Karl has also responded well to the comments, putting in a good performance in Bayern’s following game against FC Magdeburg. He provided an assist for his team’s fourth goal in their 6-1 win.
On the other hand, Karl is said to have a valuation of around £50m, and he hasn’t held talks with Bayern over a contract extension. So if those negotiations do begin and go south, the player’s valuation presumably wouldn’t be prohibitive to a club like Arsenal.

18-year-old Karl has made 12 appearances for Bayern this season, scoring one goal and assisting two more. The midfielder made a cameo appearance for the German club against Arsenal last month, having scored against the Gunners last season.
So there’s no doubt the Premier League leaders will be aware of Karl’s talent. Whether an imminent transfer is a realistic prospect is another matter.
