It was a long time coming, but Arsenal finally got the Premier League title over the line last season after a drought spanning over two decades. Outside Manchester City, no club has retained the title since Manchester United way back in 2008/09, yet there’s real belief that Arsenal could be the next team to do it.
And the current betting markets seem to share that view. City may sit top after winning all their games so far, but Arsenal remain favourites according to Premier League betting online, and the reasons run a lot deeper than results so far.
Manchester City In Transition And Turmoil
While City may have got off to a perfect start this season, winning five from five in the Premier League, there were always going to be questions asked of them about keeping that form up. The club is in a state of transition, with Enzo Maresca replacing Pep Guardiola at the helm, so the future is a bit of an unknown regarding sustaining their current run.
Then you factor in that they’ve now been found guilty of the most serious charges lodged against them, and that really throws the cat amongst the pigeons. With so much uncertainty, it could derail City on the pitch, inadvertently helping Arsenal.
Form That Holds Up Despite Brighton
Most people probably didn’t expect Arsenal to lose to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, never mind be on the end of a 3–0 defeat. However, it’s their only reverse this season, with the Gunners having won all their other games in the league. Their Premier League form, of four wins from five, as well as a perfect record outside of top flight activity, shows this is more than likely just an anomaly.
What the Brighton performance and result could also serve as is a kick up the backside, refocusing minds. Arsenal have responded well to setbacks previously, and one coming so early in the campaign could turn out to be a good thing.
Unrivalled Quality In Depth
When you’re a team competing on multiple fronts, in an attempt to win it all, you need as much quality in depth as possible. And Arsenal have it like no other club in world football. William Saliba is out injured, but the Gunners can call on Ezri Konsa, for example. They’re also spoilt for choice in midfield, especially after signing Bruno Guimarães this summer.
Mikel Arteta having such a strong group of players available to him will allow for rotation at the right time, with no loss of quality on the pitch. The Spaniard can keep his players fresh, so regardless of who the Gunners come up against, they’ll be ready to go.
Recent Experience And Know-How
After being runners-up for several seasons in a row, Arsenal won the title. That recent experience of knowing what it takes to get it over the line is huge, especially when they also went all the way to the final in the Champions League. One thing you can’t buy is experience, after all.
The pressure of trying to win the title is also off their backs. That should have been replaced by know-how and a belief that not only is it possible, but that it will happen if they take the right steps again in 2026/27, continuing after the international break against Leeds United.
