Former Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares scored a fantastic goal to keep his strong early-season form going on Sunday, with the Gunners still holding a sell-on clause in his deal.

The hype around former Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares had somewhat died down last season, after he spent a long period of the campaign either out injured or on the bench.
The Portuguese player only appeared three times for Lazio in all competitions between October 19th, 2025 and January 30th, 2026, and he had no goal contributions in Serie A for the entire season.
But the summer break seems to have done the 26-year-old some good, and he’s returned with two assists and a goal in just six games in 2026/27, with Lazio winning five of those six matches. In the Serie A standings, Tavares’ team are only second to Inter Milan on goal difference.

Tavares’ goal on Sunday was his first in Lazio colours, and it was quite some way to get off the mark.
The defender picked up the ball well outside the penalty area, and he almost took the net off with an arrowing shot into the roof of the net. Lazio went on to win the game 3-1.
The highlights are available below, with Tavares’ goal at the timestamp 0:05.
Arsenal will still be following Tavares’ progress, as they retain a sell-on clause in the player’s deal. There’s been repeated talk of potential moves for the former Gunner, but they’ve always fallen through so far.
If Lazio continue to impress and Tavares’ individual form maintains this high early level, maybe this will be the year Arsenal cash in.
