Arsenal are set to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League later this week, but the same two clubs have also been linked with a transfer battle for young Liverpool star Rio Ngumoha in recent months.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen to extend Ngumoha’s contract, and addressing all the speculation this week, the player suggested his representatives are working on it.

“To be fair, that is all with my agent now,” Ngumoha said. “I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let my football do the talking at the end of the day.

“I enjoy playing, and all of that stuff is in the back of my mind really. I just play for the club, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

David Ornstein reported for The Athletic in September that he believes there is some interest from Arsenal in Ngumoha, and he heard over the summer that the Gunners like the young winger.

Ornstein clarified that this doesn’t mean Liverpool are open to selling. In fact, the youngster’s current club are keen to renew his contract, and there’s no suggestion Ngumoha is unhappy where he is.

Yet the player is into the final two years of his contract, so a decision will need to be made one way or another before too long.

Alan Nixon had previously written that Arsenal were watching developments between Liverpool and Ngumoha with growing interest, adding that the Gunners will look to make a move for the player if he doesn’t establish himself on Liverpool’s left-hand side.

18-year-old Ngumoha had won a spot in the Liverpool senior squad last season, and he was getting regular minutes in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign. It looked like things could open up even more with Cody Gakpo’s touted departure to Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur.

But Liverpool then signed both Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz for big money, and they held onto Gakpo as well.

As a result, Ngumoha has started one of Liverpool’s first seven games of the new Premier League season, and it was on the opening day of the campaign.

The teenager has started Liverpool’s three games in other competitions (two in the Champions League, one in the League Cup), but if Liverpool are eliminated from those competitions in 2027 and Ngumoha isn’t playing matches going into the summer, Arsenal might have an opening.
