Manchester City star ruled out of Arsenal clash with 8-week injury

Antoine Semenyo is set to miss eight weeks of action with a knee injury, after making a positive start to the new season with Manchester City.

Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo had impressed in the early stages of the new Premier League campaign, scoring or assisting five goals in his first six starts of the season.

But in his most recent appearance as a substitute against Ipswich Town, Semenyo picked up an injury that will rule him out for the next couple of months.

Semenyo suffered a knee injury in the Ipswich game, and City boss Enzo Maresca suggested they initially feared the winger would be out of action for even longer.

“In the first moment, we expected a worst injury,” Maresca said. “After yesterday’s scan, we will feel better. It will be eight weeks, so when he is back in December, it will be like a new player. Not muscular. To lose Antoine, or any player, is not good.”

Though two months out is definitely not the worst news you can get when it comes to knee injuries, it does mean Semenyo is set to miss a lot of games in a busy period for City.

Most notably from an Arsenal perspective, Semenyo has been ruled out of the Gunners’ game against City on November 29th.

Assuming an absence of exactly eight weeks, Semenyo would also miss Aston Villa (A), Brighton (H), Nottingham Forest (A), Fulham (H), Leeds United (H), Brentford (A), and Chelsea (H) in the Premier League.

He’ll also miss City’s League Cup fourth-round match against Brighton (H), and their Champions League games against AEK Athens (H), RB Leipzig (A), Napoli (H), and Barcelona (A).

Given how well Barcelona and Brighton are both playing, missing those three games will be a real disappointment for Semenyo. The Chelsea game on December 12th is seven weeks and six days away, so perhaps the winger will be pushing to return one day early to make that one.
