Harry Kane admits Arsenal ‘punished’ Bayern Munich

Harry Kane has admitted that Arsenal ‘punished’ Bayern Munich for failing to kill the game off in midweek, adding that a draw was probably a fair result.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane thought he’d earned Bayern Munich three points in their Champions League clash with Arsenal in midweek, having given the team the lead with yet another penalty against the Gunners.

Bayern had the chance to kill the match with one particularly dangerous counter attack, but Arsenal managed to withstand it, and the Gunners then began to dominate the game.

Speaking after the game, Kane admitted Bayern were punished by a good Arsenal team for failing to finish things off, adding that a draw was a fair result in the end.

“We looked dangerous, we got the goal and we had a moment to kill the game off,” Kane said. “We had the momentum, they looked tired, but then we got caught in a low block for final 15 minutes and they punished us with the goal.

“The draw was probably a fair result overall. I think we could have been a bit more clinical in the final third. But there are a lot of games, we’ve got a lot of players with injuries who are missing tonight. In the end, we’ll take the point and move on.

“As the game got a little stretched towards the end, they grew into it and they’re a good physical team.”

Getting a draw away to your Pot 1 opponent is certainly an encouraging sign, especially when the performance was strong enough to deserve it.

Arsenal could even have won the game, with Bayern getting a big slice of luck with their penalty (deflected into Kane’s path and then powered onto Jurrien Timber’s arm in a natural position), and requiring a top save from Manuel Neuer to stop Bruno Guimaraes scoring a header.

The Gunners still need to play their other Pot 1 team, Real Madrid, at the Emirates Stadium. But after getting a good draw away to Bayern, they’ll feel confident of a result against any opponent.
