Arsenal winger looking forward to Bayern clash

Eberechi Eze is looking forward to facing Bayern Munich next week, and he’s admitted it’s not easy fighting for starts at Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder and left-winger Eberechi Eze has made eight appearances this season, but he’s only made three starts, with two of them coming in the Champions League.

Ahead of a big game in the competition away to Bayern Munich next week, Eze was asked for his thoughts on playing at one of Europe’s big grounds against one of the Champions League’s best teams.

“Yeah, it’s always fun,” Eze said. “Always something that you want to be doing, where you want to be competing, so I’m sure that I’ll enjoy that when it comes.”

More generally, Eze was also asked about his fight for minutes on the pitch, with the 28-year-old still yet to make the starting lineup in the Premier League on a single occasion despite Christos Tzolis’ recent injury.

“It’s difficult. Of course every player wants to play and if you don’t want to play, you’re probably not in the right place,” Eze said. “The mentality is always to always be on the pitch and to affect games and to earn your place.

“I’m doing what I can and I’m enjoying the challenge. I’m enjoying what I’m doing, so that’s the main thing.”

Eze’s performance against Lille should have helped his case, with his longest appearance on the pitch of the season so far resulting in his first goal of the campaign.

The former Palace player’s second-longest appearance was against Ipswich Town in the League Cup, and he provided an assist in that game, so he’s making a good argument for more starts over brief cameos from the bench.

But with Noni Madueke also shifting to the left against Leeds United last weekend, Eze will have to continue earning his chances, even with Tzolis out.
