Bruno Guimaraes’ wife has posted on social media to celebrate Brazil’s election results, with left-wing candidate Lula winning a fourth term as the Brazilian president.

Brazilian left-wing president Lula won a fourth term in office on Sunday night, defeating Flavio Bolsonaro in the run-off vote.
Bolsonaro had received the most votes in the first round of the election, but having failed to receive over 50% of the total vote, a run-off vote between the leading two contenders had to take place to determine the winner. This time around, Lula received 51.79% of the vote.
Reacting to the news on social media, Bruno Guimaraes’ wife Ana Lidia Guimaraes was clearly delighted.

“I am not [just supporting Lula now]! I have always been!” Ana Lidia Guimaraes wrote on Instagram, captioning a picture from 2019.
“For the Brazil that I love so much, for which I so eagerly await the day to return. For the Brazil where I will live for the rest of my life, for the Brazil that is sovereign!
“I may not be there today, but my heart is and always will be with you. Photo from 2019, in my final year of FEDERAL university, my only chance to attend higher education.”
The emphasis on ‘federal’ in the post is likely due to the fact that left-wing parties often campaign on creating federal universities.

The Arsenal star’s wife added in another Instagram story: “You don’t even need to bother letting me know you’re unfollowing, because I couldn’t care less! Go right ahead!”
In a further comment, she emphasised that Lula was “democratically elected”, with Flavio Bolsonaro already calling for the result to be annulled. She also said that Lula is “the greatest statesman in the history of Brazil”.
Brazilian footballers and their families aren’t always such strong backers of left-wing parties, with Neymar a known long-term supporter of the Bolsonaro family, among others. But Guimaraes’ family are clearly pleased with the weekend’s results, on the pitch and off it.
