Arsenal international to miss 2-3 weeks with new injury

Christos Tzolis is facing a few weeks on the sidelines with his hamstring injury, according to the latest reports.

Christos Tzolis suffered a hamstring injury in Greece’s match against the Netherlands on Thursday night, and whilst initial reports on the problem were largely positive, the winger is still facing a few weeks on the sidelines.

That’s according to Greek journalist Dimitris Manakos, who reports that Tzolis is expected to be sidelined for two-to-three weeks with his injury, based on an initial assessment of the issue.

Initial fears of a serious problem had been quelled by footage of the player running off the pitch, and Greece manager Ivan Jovanovic appearing relatively positive about things after the game.

“I tell him to come out and he says, ‘I’m not coming out’,” Jovanovic said. “I told him to get out, because I suspected that he wouldn’t have done that (gone down) if he hadn’t felt something. We don’t know how much damage was done today, but I hoped it was just a twitch, something temporary.

“These aren’t qualifiers, they’re the Nations League, first and foremost I wanted to protect the player. As a coach I have to take the decision to replace the player, because it was a muscular issue.”

Based on the above timeline, Tzolis will now certainly miss Greece’s final game of the international break at home to Germany, as well as Arsenal’s first game back at home to Leeds United on October 10th.

Two weeks out would see Tzolis also missing the Lille home game, and it would make him a doubt to face Nottingham Forest on October 18th. Three weeks out would see him also missing Bayern Munich on October 21st and potentially Everton on October 24th.

It’s certainly far from ideal, but given hamstring injuries can sideline players for months, it’s also not the worst news Arsenal could have received. The Gunners will likely want to do their own assessments of the problem before confirming the injury timeline.
