Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri was denied a bicycle-kick goal for Borussia Dortmund over the weekend, due to a foul in the build-up.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri has made a positive start to his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, making three starts in a row after coming off the bench for 58 minutes and 55 minutes in his first two appearances.
Though it’s only the start of the 19-year-old’s loan, Nwaneri has already made more appearances of 50 minutes or more than during his entire spell with Marseille. He’s only 109 Dortmund minutes away from matching his on-field total for the French club.
Yet the one thing lacking so far is a goal, and Nwaneri was unfortunate to be denied one in Dortmund’s most recent game against Werder Bremen.

It was former Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein denying Nwaneri for much of the match, making a smart stop from one deflected effort from outside the area, before denying the Gunners loanee again from close range with his feet.
Hein could do nothing about Nwaneri’s next effort, an acrobatic overhead kick that flew in off the post. But the goalkeeper was saved by the referee whistling for a foul.
The foul was perhaps a little soft, with Dortmund’s Waldermar Anton being pushed into the contact as much as anything else. But it couldn’t be reviewed by VAR, as the whistle had gone before the ball nestled in the net.
The highlights from the match are available here, and the replays of the overhead kick available here.

The search for Nwaneri’s first Dortmund goal goes on, but this was certainly one of his best appearances so far.
An improvised flicked pass to Maximilian Beier earlier in the game really should have resulted in a goal, and all the flicks and tricks suggested the Arsenal youngster is growing in confidence.
