2 top European teams show interest in Arsenal winger

Atletico Madrid and Juventus are showing an interest in Arsenal winger Noni Madueke, just over a year after his transfer to north London.

Mike McGrath reports for The Telegraph that Arsenal’s Noni Madueke is drawing interest from multiple Champions League clubs, naming Atletico Madrid and Juventus among the 24-year-old’s admirers.

McGrath adds that other clubs would be expected to join the race for Madueke, should he be made available in the January transfer window.

Various clubs are monitoring the situation, and looking into whether any parties would consider a loan move. McGrath adds that England boss Thomas Tuchel and his staff still rate Madueke highly, choosing not to call him up for the current break due to his limited minutes with Arsenal.

For the time being, it’s hard to see Arsenal choosing to let Madueke go, particularly on loan. The winger provides an alternative to Bukayo Saka on the right, but the Gunners’ options on the left are also relatively thin.

That’s particularly evident right now, with Christos Tzolis suffering an injury to potentially leave Eberechi Eze as the club’s first-choice left-wing option.

Madueke is probably going to find himself getting a lot more minutes over the next few weeks, as he’ll probably be needed on both sides of the pitch at different times.

But if Tzolis returns to fitness relatively quickly, if Arsenal finally land the major left-wing signing they’ve clearly been chasing for years, and if Max Dowman can prove a capable backup to Saka, then Madueke’s situation would start to look a bit less certain.

A loan would still be an odd choice, but a permanent transfer to fund that major left-wing incoming is potentially a more realistic scenario.
