Arsenal approach Mexican club over January 2027 transfer

Arsenal have approached the Club Tijuana hierarchy to open talks over the potential transfer of Gilberto Mora in 2027, according to a report.

Mexican outlet El Porvenir report that Arsenal have approached the management team of Club Tijuana to open talks over the possible signing of Gilberto Mora in January.

The same outlet adds that Mora has a $28m (£21.2m) release clause, and that he’s also attracting interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, and Benfica.

The January window is potentially the pivotal one for Mora’s future, as he’ll be 18 and eligible for a move to the Premier League. He turns 18 next week, so as a Mexican national he would have been unable to play in the English top flight until now.

Reports of interest in Mora from Arsenal and Liverpool have been circulating for a while now, though there has been some dispute on the size of his release clause. Fellow Mexican outlet El Universal put the clause at $25m earlier this year.

Mora currently plays in the Mexican first-tier with Club Tijuana, and he’s made a lightning-fast start to the new season. With five goals and one assist, the teenager is already just one goal contribution away from matching last season’s tally.

Perhaps the player’s participation in the summer World Cup has helped to inspire him, as he played four of Mexico’s five matches before their elimination by England. He played again and scored for Mexico against Colombia over the September-October break.

As well as attacking midfield, Mora can operate on the left, or even at centre-forward. He looks set for a move to one of Europe’s top teams sooner or later.
