Martin Odegaard has been pictured in training with Norway, but he reportedly wasn’t fully involved in the session following Bernardo Silva’s reckless foul on him at the weekend.
Matt Verri of The Standard was among those to report on Tuesday that Martin Odegaard had missed training with Norway due to an ankle injury, with Arsenal reportedly in constant contact with the midfielder’s national team.
“The medical sector reports what has happened, and now it is the case that every metre you run here, and all training and everything you have done, is sent to the club,” Norway boss Stale Solbakken said.
“The medical contact is almost continuous. It’s standard procedure. I don’t interfere with that. There are four or five people for that, so they have to manage that.”
Yet there were also some positive signs on Tuesday. For a start, the player was pictured out on the grass with a ball at his feet, albeit not wearing football boots.
Even if he wasn’t involved in full training in the morning, it seems Odegaard did at least hold an individual training session at some stage.
Norway assistant coach Brede Hangeland also suggested Odegaard’s ankle issue was already improving, saying: “Martin was in the breakfast room, he was happy and he had less pain in his ankle than yesterday.
“Martin will be allowed to do what he wants in training today with regard to his ankle, and I’m glad it’s much better than yesterday.”
Odegaard suffered the injury as a direct result of a foul by former Manchester City player Bernardo Silva, who kicked out at the Arsenal captain when the ball was long gone.
Odegaard was incensed by the kick, with the TV cameras appearing to pick up the player shouting “f**k you, f**k you” at Silva before squaring up to him.
Silva wouldn’t meet his opponent’s eyes, shying away from the confrontation that left the Arsenal captain limping. Silva didn’t apologise after the game.
