Injured Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera has returned to training over the international break, but with former club Valencia in Spain.
Cristhian Mosquera’s fitness situation has been a little unclear for the last couple of weeks, with repeated suggestions that he’s closing in on a comeback, but no sign of the player in any Arsenal training sessions.
The international break has provided a welcome opportunity for Mosquera to work on his recovery, with three weeks between the Gunners’ defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion and their next game at home to Leeds United.
Pau Pardo reports for Spanish outlet Super Deporte that Mosquera has now returned to training, but not in north London. Instead, the defender is back with his former club Valencia.
According to the report, the former Valencia defender was out on the training pitches last week, training on his own as part of a holiday back to his home country.
Mosquera’s primary aim was to visit his family, but he’s also working on his physical fitness, hoping to be back in action in time for that Leeds game.
If all goes well, Mosquera will presumably return to England later in the break to rejoin his Arsenal teammates.
With William Saliba also out injured, Arsenal have been stretched a bit thin at the back in recent weeks. Summer signing Ezri Konsa has found himself completely indispensable, and Mosquera hasn’t been available to fill in for Ben White or Jurrien Timber at right-back either.
Arsenal fans will be eagerly anticipating Saliba’s return, but for now, getting Mosquera back would be a real help.
