Kai Havertz has returned to Arsenal for further checks after picking up a muscle injury with Germany, with fresh reports raising concern over how long he could be out.
Kai Havertz could be out for up to a month after picking up a muscle injury while away with Germany, with the forward now back at Arsenal for further scans and treatment.
The Times reports that there are fears in Germany that Havertz could miss as much as four weeks after a challenge from Quinten Timber, the brother of his Arsenal team-mate Jurrien Timber.
That timeframe has not been confirmed and remains speculation for now, and, with the extended international break still underway, isn’t as bad as it initially sounds.
Germany manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game that Havertz and Jamal Musiala were both undergoing scans.
“At the moment, both (Havertz and Jamal Musiala) are on the MRI [scans],” Klopp said. “Of course, that’s not great now. I just hope this is nothing bad.
“The boys are probably out for us, but hopefully then also relatively quickly available again.”
That would appear to rule Havertz out of Germany’s remaining involvement for this part of the international break, although he had only been called up for their first two matches in any case.
Germany’s second game is against Greece on Sunday, so Klopp’s comments do not in themselves tell us much about Havertz’s availability beyond that point.
The bigger concern for Arsenal is whether the injury keeps him out when club football resumes on 10 October.
For now, the four-week estimate should be treated with caution. Havertz has returned to Arsenal, where the club will carry out further checks before there is a clearer picture of how long he might be missing.
