Ceadach O’Neill is beginning to attract serious praise in Northern Ireland after another senior appearance added to the growing interest around the Arsenal teenager.
Ceadach O’Neill has received praise in the Northern Irish media after making his competitive debut for Northern Ireland, with Sunday Life’s Steven Beacom arguing that the Arsenal teenager already looks unusually comfortable at senior international level.
Beacom’s piece is less concerned with the result against Georgia than with what O’Neill’s brief appearance said about his temperament. The recurring theme is that the 18-year-old does not appear intimidated by the step up, either by the occasion or by the level of opponent.
That is significant because O’Neill’s international future had attracted considerable attention before Friday night. His previous two senior appearances came in friendlies, leaving him eligible to switch to the Republic of Ireland, but his Nations League appearance has now settled that question.
The Sunday Life verdict is essentially that Northern Ireland have secured a player of genuine promise, and that Arsenal appear to be handling his development well.
Beacom also points towards the next question in O’Neill’s career, namely how Arsenal choose to manage his route into senior club football. A loan is mentioned only as a possibility to watch, not as something currently planned.
The important part from an Arsenal perspective is the tone of the coverage. O’Neill is no longer being discussed simply as a promising academy player or as the subject of an eligibility dispute. He is beginning to be judged on what he does on the pitch, and the early reviews are very encouraging.

Since signing from Linfield in the summer of 2024, O’Neill has 16 goals and five assists in 41 u18 games and two goals, with an assist, in 12 u21 appearances. He has also played in Arsenal’s youth Champions League team, scoring two, with an assist, in just five games.
O’Neill has also been on the senior Arsenal bench twice, both in the FA Cup.
