The Premier League have confirmed that Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard has topped their vote for the best player of Matchweek 3, describing the Gunners captain’s performance against Chelsea as a ‘magical display’.

Odegaard won 31% of the vote, narrowly edging out Alexander Isak’s 30%, after scoring and creating four chances in the London derby match.

Odegaard is also one of three Arsenal players selected for the Premier League’s Fan Team of the Week, joining David Raya and Ezri Konsa in the side.

Arsenal’s star playmaker was widely considered to be the standout performer of the win over Chelsea, winning the Player of the Match award and being named in the BBC and WhoScored Teams of the Week.

Troy Deeney wrote that Odegaard is a “captain, leader, and a massive winner”, and suggested that the summer rumours that Arsenal might sell him were “scary”.

But it’s nice for the 27-year-old to get some credit on a league-wide basis, rather than just in the context of the game itself.

Odegaard has made a fast start to 2026/27, scoring three goals in Arsenal’s first four games. What’s more, two of those goals came against big-six opposition in Manchester City and Chelsea.

After some serious injury issues in 2025/26, there were certainly some concerns for Odegaard’s Arsenal future. But the talent was always still there, and the Norway international is showing it again on a weekly basis.
