Sporting CP have already received around 40% of the bonus payments for Viktor Gyokeres’ sale to Arsenal, according to their latest accounts.
Portuguese club Sporting CP have released their latest accounts, which include confirmation of the exact amount Arsenal have paid so far for Viktor Gyokeres.
The accounts confirm that Arsenal paid an initial fixed amount of €65.8m, which would be £56.5m based on today’s exchange rate. The Gunners also committed to up to €10.3m (£8.9m) in bonus payments, based on various conditions.
Of those bonuses, Sporting had already received €4.1m (£3.5m) by the end of their financial year on June 30th.
The figures are broadly consistent with previous reports on the nature of Gyokeres’ bonus payments.
Those reports had suggested Arsenal would pay around €0.5m for every 20 goal contributions (up to a max of €1m), €1.25m for every 20 appearances of 45 minutes or more (up to a max of €5m), and €1m per Champions League qualification (up to a max of €4m).
As Gyokeres has passed 20 goals and assists for Arsenal, made over 40 appearances of 45 minutes or more, and as Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League, that’s one payment of €0.5m, two of €1.25m, and one of €1m.
That’s a total of €4m by the media reports, roughly the same as the €4.1m in the accounts.
The good news is that Gyokeres isn’t particularly close to any further bonus payments at this stage.
The striker is still 14 appearances of 45 minutes or more away from his next appearance payment, 16 goals/assists away from his last goal contributions payment, and at least six or seven months from Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League.
Given he’s not getting many starts at the moment, it may be a while until the striker hits any of those targets. Though if he does start racking up the goal contributions, that would be a good thing for everyone.
