Ben Rumsby reports for The Telegraph that former Arsenal loanee Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and drug offences following a motorway crash, and he’s due in court on September 15th.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.

“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.

“The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.

“No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.”

The Telegraph point out that dangerous driving carries a maximum two-year prison sentence if someone is found guilty, and possession of nitrous oxide also carries a maximum prison term of two years – though it is more commonly punished by a fine or community service.

The Daily Mail released dashcam footage of Sterling veering around the roads prior to the crash, and they suggested the player appeared to be holding a balloon as he drove.

Though the actual crash wasn’t shown in that footage, the car did almost hit the central reservation after veering across all three lanes of the road.

Sterling made 28 appearances for Arsenal during a loan spell from Chelsea, scoring one goal and providing five assists. The winger then had his contract terminated with the Blues, before spending a brief period on loan with Feyenoord.

As it stands, Sterling is without a club since his exit from Feyenoord, and this court date probably isn’t doing much to help generate interest in his signature.
