Real Madrid now in pivotal contract meeting with Vinicius Junior

Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior’s camp are currently holding contract talks, with the club hoping to emerge from the meeting with a resolution one way or the other.

Ramon Alvarez de Mon reports that Vinicius Junior’s camp are currently in a meeting with Real Madrid, and the club intend to emerge from it with a clear solution.

Vinicius is in the final 12 months of his contract, and extension negotiations have been stalling for months. His club are understandably keen to see him either agreeing an extension or agreeing to be sold, to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

There are no guarantees such a decision will be made today, but that’s evidently what Real Madrid want.

The problem for Real Madrid is that Vinicius has reportedly already turned down their latest contract offer, and various reports have suggested they don’t plan to improve it.

So unless the player’s camp make a u-turn in Wednesday’s meeting, it’s hard to see how they can reach a compromise.

Quillo Barrios reported this morning that Vinicius’ camp are very pessimistic about a renewal, believing their client has already done all he can to stay, and feeling Real Madrid won’t improve their offer.

That would be good news for Arsenal, with Barrios reporting that the Gunners are the only option if Vinicius doesn’t renew or leave for free. If he won’t extend, Real Madrid will do everything they can to push a sale.

Even so, the player’s desire to remain in Madrid may yet prove pivotal. He could consider a last-minute contract concession, he could push to stay even without agreeing a renewal, there’s still a lot that needs to happen before an Arsenal move becomes the most likely outcome.

Wednesday’s meeting is evidently considered a pivotal moment, but it may not give us the end of the story.
