Arsenal have agreed a fee for the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, with details of the deal emerging and the player receiving permission from Newcastle United to hold a medical.

David Ornstein confirmed for The Athletic on Wednesday morning that Newcastle United are set to sell Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal for £75m.

Ornstein writes that Arsenal began negotiations much lower, and Newcastle much higher, but the two clubs are set to meet in the middle to allow Guimaraes his desired move.

£6-7m will go to Guimaraes’ former club Lyon, as they were entitled to 20% of the profit on Newcastle’s sale. Note that it was only 20% of the ‘profit’, not of the total sale price, hence why it’s not a larger number.

Simon Collings is one of multiple journalists to report that the £75m is a flat fee, with no add-ons included in the deal. Martin Hardy writes for The Times that the £75m will be paid over 24 months.

Lee Ryder of ChronicleLive reports that Newcastle and Bruno are making an ‘amicable split’, with the player telling incoming Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle that he wants to leave.

Luke Edwards reports for The Telegraph that Newcastle’s initial position – that it would take a ‘ridiculous offer’ to persuade them to sell – ended up taking a battering. Arsenal are of the belief that Kia Joorabchian has helped to knock the fee down by £25m.

As for what’s next, Sami Mokbel reports for the BBC that Arsenal are making preparations for Bruno’s medical this week, and Sky Sports News claim the player has been granted permission to travel for those tests.

Bruno will now leave Newcastle’s training camp in Spain, and ideally he’ll be signed in time to link up with Arsenal ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup match against Borussia Dortmund.
