Arsenal and Myles Lewis-Skelly are denying any involvement in the player being offered to Chelsea and Manchester United, with intermediaries seemingly behind the move.
Reports on Tuesday suggested that both Chelsea and Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer, adding that Arsenal could be tempted following the recent arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.
Yet James McNicholas, Simon Johnson, and Laurie Whitwell have since reported for The Athletic that Lewis-Skelly doesn’t want to leave, and that Arsenal aren’t exploring a sale.
The Athletic claim Lewis-Skelly is neither seeking nor even exploring a move away, and Arsenal maintain that they haven’t offered him out. Though the report adds that you can never say never, the Gunners don’t actively want to lose the midfielder.
From the other side, both Chelsea and United sources claim they have indeed been offered the player, but there’s no evidence that Arsenal made the offer directly.
Chelsea feel they’re well-stocked in Lewis-Skelly’s position anyway, and whilst United are looking for a left-back, they believe the teenager could end up being too expensive.
Football insider HandofArsenal reports that the noise definitely didn’t come from the player’s side, and they were shocked at the news.
As for where the story all came from, Dominic King claims for The Telegraph that Chelsea and United were contacted by an intermediary. King claims the intermediary was associated with the player, but Lewis-Skelly’s camp are evidently denying this.
King does add that it is understood Lewis-Skelly is determined to fight for his place at Arsenal, so all media sources are in agreement on that point.
It seems some of football’s middle men were hoping to cash in on a big-money switch for one of Arsenal’s top young players. The only problem is they failed to get the player on board. Or the selling club. Or either of the buying clubs.
