Eduardo Burgos reports for Spanish outlet AS that Arsenal will announce Bruno Guimaraes’ signing on Friday, with the player already having undergone his medical, signed his contract, and taken photos in his new kit.

But for those impatiently waiting for confirmation, new Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle has effectively already provided it.

There had been some suggestions that it was only after Guimaraes met Jaissle that Newcastle finally approved his transfer exit, but the new boss insists that’s not the case, and the decision for Bruno to leave was already made.

“I met him quickly, but the decision was already made,” Jaissle said. “It was a nice conversation. He’s a fantastic player and a great human being.

“It’s tough, but for him now it’s the next challenge and we need to deal with it at a later stage.

“We trust the players who are here already, but we will also see some changes.”

Bruno is expected to take the number 39 with Arsenal, having previously worn it for at least some of his spells with Athletico ParanaenseLyon, and Newcastle.

Arsenal technically already have a player with the number 39, as youth midfielder Louie Copley has worn the number in pre-season.

But it wouldn’t be the first time an academy player has given up a number to a new signing, as Mika Biereth did the same to give Declan Rice 41 when the former West Ham United player arrived.

Arsenal are set to pay £75m for Guimaraes, and he’s signing a four-year contract to 2030.
