Atletico Madrid want Julian Alvarez to make a quick decision on whether to stay or join a club overseas, refusing to entertain any interest from within Spain.
Mundo Deportivo report that Atletico Madrid only see two possible outcomes for Julian Alvarez this summer.
The first is to stay at Atletico and fulfill his contract, which runs to 2030. The second is to accept an offer from England or France, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain as the only serious contenders to sign him.
If Alvarez does want to leave, Atletico want him to make that decision soon, as they’d need time to find a suitable replacement.
Gary Jacob recently reported for The Times that Alvarez has been Arsenal’s primary target this summer, though that appears to have changed a little in the last few days with the emergence of links to Vinicius Junior.
But with a move for Vinicius viewed as a long shot, Alvarez may be a more realistic signing, even if it would still be for big money.
Jacob added that Arsenal would be willing to offer a part swap deal involving Viktor Gyokeres, helping Atletico with their search for a replacement.
Atletico chiefs recently released a public statement on their refusal to sell Alvarez this summer, though the comments were always believed to be directed at Barcelona.
The player was reportedly unhappy about the statement, which was posted just days before he was due to play in the World Cup final. But Atletico ultimately hold the cards here, with Alvarez under contract for another four years.
If the relationship between player and club has truly broken down, and if Atletico never change their stance on selling to Barcelona, perhaps Arsenal do have a chance.
