Arsenal have concrete interest in 21yo German striker

Arsenal are interested in Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, but the player may not be available this summer, according to a report from Belgium.

Valerie van Avermaet reports for Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad that Arsenal are one of three clubs pushing to sign Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge, along with AS Roma and Atletico Madrid.

Officially, Tresoldi isn’t for sale this summer. Brugge feel his spell with the club should continue for at least one more season. But the Gunners are reportedly showing concrete interest in the transfer.

There are no negotiations underway, and Tresoldi still has a contract until 2029. The only concern is that the financial gap between Brugge and the clubs interested may be great enough to convince the Belgians to give in.

This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Tresoldi, with Bild’s Christian Falk reporting earlier this year that the Gunners were seriously interested and the favourites to sign the 21-year-old.

Before last season, Tresoldi was playing for Hannover 96 in Germany, and he never played above the second tier of German football. So, this year has been his first season in a country’s top flight.

With that in mind, it’s been a strong start, with Tresoldi scoring 23 goals and assisting a further nine in all competitions, including three goals and one assist in his debut Champions League campaign. Two of the goals were against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, the other against Monaco.

Tresoldi didn’t score in his appearance against Arsenal for Brugge in December, but he did have one decent shot on target in a tough game for his team. Of course, a move to the Premier League would be another step up.

Internationally, Tresoldi plays for the Germany u21s, and he scored a brace against Northern Ireland in the March break. He has six goals in his last seven games for the team.

Arsenal are also interested in Tresoldi’s Brugge teammate Christos Tzolis, and that deal seems far more likely to go ahead this summer.
