Bruno Guimaraes has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and informed Newcastle United he wants to leave, but there’s still no contact between the clubs.

Earlier this week, David Ornstein broke the news for The Athletic that Bruno Guimaraes had informed Newcastle United of his wish to leave the club and join Arsenal.
Sami Mokbel confirmed for the BBC that Guimaraes had asked for a transfer and the deal is progressing, but Arsenal have accepted that they’ll have to pay more than £60m for the transfer, and Newcastle continue to insist the midfielder isn’t for sale.

On personal terms, there’s evidently no issue. Hugo Guillemet reported for L’Equipe on Thursday that Guimaraes has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, should the clubs agree a fee.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that there’s no doubt that Arsenal and Guimaraes have an agreement in principle, as the player wouldn’t have gone to Newcastle to ask for a move without reaching that agreement first.
Romano adds that Guimaraes wants to leave in London, he wants to work with Mikel Arteta, he wants to play in the Champions League, and he wants to win trophies. A transfer to Arsenal just makes sense for him.

From Newcastle’s end, Craig Hope has reported for the Daily Mail that Newcastle are refusing to engage until they receive direct contact from Arsenal, and they’re surprised that hasn’t already arrived.
But Hope’s sources claim a £75m bid could see progress on a deal, with intermediaries believing that’s the tipping point. Officially, Newcastle remain adamant they aren’t selling.
It seems there won’t be any significant progress until Arsenal make a formal bid, with all the other details already in place.
