Alex Scott has turned down a contract extension offer from Bournemouth, but the club remain committed to keeping him amid interest from Arsenal and others.
Arsenal hopes of signing Alex Scott this summer seemingly received a boost as Sky Sports News reported that the player had turned down a new contract with AFC Bournemouth.
Bournemouth have reportedly made Scott a number of offers since the beginning of talks a few months ago, but the player has indicated he isn’t willing to agree new terms.
But Sky claim Bournemouth still don’t want to sell, and they’ve already knocked back enquiries from various clubs for Scott’s signing. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United are believed to be the frontrunners for the transfer, if it ever becomes possible.
Sami Mokbel and Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC confirm that Scott has rejected a new contract with Bournemouth, adding that Arsenal have already had an approach for Scott turned down by Bournemouth in June.
The south-coast club continue to insist Scott isn’t for sale, even after his latest contract rejection and talk of an £80m valuation. His current contract lasts until 2028.
Bournemouth feel they’re under no pressure to sell, having already generated funds through previous sales and Europa League qualification.
Bournemouth were hoping to convince Scott to sign a new contract including a release clause, a tactic that has had success for them in the past.
They convinced Dean Huijsen and Antoine Semenyo to sign contracts with release clauses, before selling both when those clauses were activated by Real Madrid and Manchester City.
But Scott doesn’t seem so keen to reach a similar agreement, perhaps as he believes this summer is his best chance to move on. But if Bournemouth’s stance doesn’t change, a transfer will still be impossible.
