Arsenal have Porto winger on their shortlist

Oskar Pietuszewski remains on Arsenal’s shortlist of young talents, despite the player moving to Portuguese club FC Porto in the January transfer window.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha report that Oskar Pietuszewski is on a shortlist of young players that Arsenal are closely monitoring for potential future transfers.

The same outlet claims Arsenal had already spent time observing Pietuszewski even before FC Porto signed him in January, which tallies with previous reports on the player.

Tomasz Wlodarczyk had reported for Meczyki.pl in December that whilst Jagiellonia Bialystok hoped to hold onto Pietuszewski until the end of the season, they were expecting offers ahead of the January transfer window, and Arsenal were one of the clubs listed as having an interest.

But Arsenal were technically unable to formally sign Pietuszewski at the time, as he was still just 17 years old. His 18th birthday in May and the fact he’s a full Poland international means he should easily be able to get a work permit to play in England now.

Pietuszewski scored three goals and assisted four in 18 appearances for Porto in his first half a season, helping them to win the league title.

Prior to his January move, the player had three goals and two assists in 17 appearances in the Ekstraklasa, the Polish first tier. At the time, he was playing for the Poland u21s, scoring four goals in six matches.

A big move to Porto helped propel the youngster into the Poland senior national team, and he made his debut in their World Cup qualification play-offs in March.

Though they failed to qualify for the tournament, Pietuszewski was called up again for a couple of friendlies in May/June, suggesting he’s set for more chances in the future.
