Arsenal got a great deal when they signed Cristhian Mosquera last summer, with various reports putting the initial fee in the region of £13m, but the deal did include some performance-related add-ons.

Spanish outlet Levante-EMV report that Arsenal have now activated the first of those add-on payments.

According to the newspaper, Arsenal paid an initial fee of around €15.5m (£13.4m), with €4m (£3.5m) in add-ons. One of those add-ons was contingent on Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League, which they have, so the money is now owed.

The report doesn’t state exactly how much of the €4m is due for Arsenal’s successful Champions League qualification, but it’s probably fair to assume it would be at least €1m.

Arsenal qualified for the Champions League quite a while ago now, so this isn’t a completely new development.

The Gunners ended up finishing 28 points ahead of sixth place as they earned their new status as Premier League champions, so they weren’t even close to missing out on Europe’s top-tier competition.

21-year-old Mosquera made 35 appearances throughout his first season in England, despite an ankle injury that sidelined him for a little over a month between December and January.

There should still be plenty more to come from the Spanish international, and for now he’ll be resting up on his holidays ahead of pre-season.

With most of the Arsenal senior squad going to the World Cup, and reports that William Saliba might require surgery, Mosquera is set for a major role in those early pre-season games.
