Arsenal are set to make a fresh offer for Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United, having seen their first approach knocked back by the north-east club.

Following reports that Arsenal’s verbal £55m offer for Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes was rejected earlier this week, Craig Hope and Tom Collomosse reported for the Daily Mail on Friday night that the Gunners are preparing a second offer for the player.
After Arsenal’s first approach through intermediaries, those intermediaries were informed by Newcastle’s hierarchy that Guimaraes is not for sale.
The Daily Mail report that it’s “likely” Newcastle’s stance will remain the same, regardless of the second offer, though the fact the player’s name is being circulated around Premier League rivals has reportedly raised alarm at St. James’ Park.

With two years left on his contract, it’s not known whether Guimaraes plans to stay and extend or leave Newcastle this summer. From Arsenal’s perspective, they’ve made the player one of their top targets.
Sami Mokbel reports for the BBC that whilst Newcastle haven’t yet received direct contact from Arsenal (as mentioned, the initial verbal offer was made through intermediaries), the Gunners are indeed poised to make a second offer now.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are holding internal discussions over a new bid, though Newcastle maintain their stance that they don’t plan to sell.

Over in Brazil, Lance! report that Newcastle’s absence from European competitions next season is a strong motivator for the player to seek a new challenge, and Andrea Berta is a long-term fan of the 28-year-old.
For the time being, Newcastle sources are suggesting none of that matters, and Guimaraes will still be their player at the end of the summer.
But given the midfielder’s contract length and these suggestions the player may want European football, Arsenal may keep pushing for the signing over the coming weeks.
