Arsenal in line for sell-on profit as club set €50m valuation

Folarin Balogun is expected to leave AS Monaco this summer, with Arsenal in line to profit from a transfer.

David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that former Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun is expected to leave AS Monaco this summer, as it’s believed he favours an exit from the Ligue 1 club.

Balogun has a contract until 2028, but there haven’t been any talks over an extension, and early discussions have taken place with potential suitors.

Nothing is advanced at this stage, but there’s interest from the Premier League and Europe, including Italy. Ornstein reports that Monaco will seek a fee in the region of €50m (£43.1m) for Balogun.

That will be music to Arsenal’s ears, as the Gunners included a 17.5% sell-on clause in Balogun’s deal, as we covered on the site last week. Ornstein has since confirmed that percentage is accurate.

Arsenal sold Balogun to AS Monaco for around £35m in August 2023, with approximately £26m guaranteed and the rest in potential add-ons.

But the total amount the Gunners receive could be set for another boost, if Balogun indeed moves on.

For the time being, Balogun is playing at the World Cup with the United States men’s national team, which is helping to raise his profile.

The striker has two goals in two games at the tournament so far, as well as forcing Cameron Burgess’ own goal in the USA’s win over Australia.

Strong performances at the World Cup can often earn a player a big move, particularly playing for a high-profile team like the tournament’s hosts. That looks set to be the case again here.
