Jurrien Timber is now close to agreeing a contract extension with Arsenal, as he pushes for a return to fitness at a pivotal moment.

Tom Canton reports for Football.London that Jurrien Timber is close to agreeing terms for a new Arsenal contract, and he’s expected to sign an extension with the Gunners in the near future.
Timber’s current deal expires in 2028, giving him a couple more years in north London, but Arsenal evidently hope to keep him around for longer than that.
Canton adds that with Ben White potentially set to depart this summer, Arsenal would then be looking to sign another full-back to compete with Timber next season.

There have been positive reports on Arsenal’s contract talks with Timber all season long, with Fabrizio Romano reporting all the way back in October that the player himself was keen on signing a longer-term contract.
At the time, Romano claimed negotiations simply centred on the pay rise Timber would receive. If those terms are now close to being agreed, there should be nothing to stop the extension going ahead.
But Timber’s current focus will be on the immediate future, with Arsenal playing in the Champions League final on Saturday, and the Netherlands then travelling across the Atlantic for the World Cup.
Timber has been out of action with an injury since March 14th, but he appears to be close to a comeback now.

The question is whether that comeback has come soon enough, with the right-back now unable to play any competitive minutes before Saturday’s final.
Even if Timber is technically fit to play against Paris Saint-Germain, it will be up to Mikel Arteta whether or not to select him ahead of players who have been involved on the pitch over the last few weeks.
