Injuries could prevent Arsenal target’s summer transfer

Tino Livramento’s chances of leaving Newcastle United have been hurt by his recent injuries, with Arsenal among the clubs previously linked with a summer move.

Arsenal have been linked with Newcastle United right-back Tino Livramento on a number of occasions over the last few months, and the move looked particularly likely in April as Newcastle struggled to secure any form of European football.

But with Newcastle’s absence from Europe next season now confirmed, an Arsenal move for Livramento is actually looking less probable, given the player’s injury struggles.

Luke Edwards reports for The Telegraph that whilst Livramento looked certain to leave at the start of the year, his injury problems have been so serious that no club is willing to match Newcastle’s asking price of more than £50m.

Livramento was out injured from mid-January to mid-March, and seven games after returning he was ruled out of action once again. Ironically, the first game he missed with his new injury was the one at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal, and he’s yet to make another comeback

In all, the defender has had four injury setbacks this season, sidelining him for 35 games for club and country so far.

Considering that Arsenal are looking for someone to rotate with their current batch of injury-prone right-backs, signing Livramento wouldn’t feel much like solving the problem.

At more than £50m, it’s certainly going to be difficult for Newcastle to find a buyer for a player who hasn’t been able to stay fit all season, even if that player is a talented 23-year-old.

Livramento probably needs to have a run in the Newcastle team and prove his fitness if Arsenal are going to come back in for him in the future.
