Havertz & Arteta feeling confident for Champions League final

Kai Havertz and Mikel Arteta have admitted they’re feeling confident ahead of the Champions League final, believing they can bring the trophy home to north London.

With just over a day to go until the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, nerves are probably starting to kick in for the supporters of the two clubs.

But there are seemingly no such nerves at Arsenal just yet, with Kai Havertz telling the media that despite knowing that PSG have been one of the best teams around for the last couple of years, he believes the Gunners are going to beat them in Budapest.

“To be fair they were the best team, probably, in Europe last year,” Havertz began. “And they’ve played an unbelievable season again.

“And for us I think it’s in general the second time the club has made it to the final. But we have so much confidence. We’ve been fighting on the highest level for a couple of years now and now finally won the Premier League, so I think that gives us a big boost as well.

“We’re going to see. I think anyway, it doesn’t matter if you’re the underdog or whatever, we’re going to go on the pitch and we’re going to beat them.”

Mikel Arteta also admitted he’s feeling confident ahead of the game, relishing the chance to make history with Arsenal.

“We’re going to prepare that game with the intention to win and write a new story in the club’s history,” Arteta said. “That’s for sure.

“We know what it’s going to mean. We need to earn it, we need to prepare so well. I’m really confident that we’re going to get there in the best possible place.

“It’s going to be, for 90 minutes, showtime at the biggest stage that you can play in – in a club competition – against a top opponent.”

It’s obviously one thing to talk about being confident in interviews, and another to display that confidence on the football pitch. But there certainly seems to be a good vibe around Arsenal at the moment.

It’s not hard to understand why, with the Gunners lifting the Premier League trophy less than a week ago. Whatever happens this Saturday, Arteta and the squad have already given the fans their first taste of league success for over two decades.

But it would take everything to the next level to win the Champions League for the first time in Arsenal’s history. And the manager and the players clearly believe they can do it.
