Eze fires shots at Spurs after Arsenal title win

Eberechi Eze has fired a couple of shots at Tottenham Hotspur, joking that he made the right choice to join Arsenal and that his favourite moment of the season came against their local rivals.

As if watching Arsenal win the Premier League wasn’t bad enough for Spurs fans, they’ve also had to endure Eberechi Eze rubbing it in a bit over the last few days.

In the immediate aftermath of Arsenal’s final-day win over Crystal Palace and subsequent trophy lift, Eze was sarcastically asked by Lee Dixon whether he made the right decision joining the Gunners over 17th-placed Spurs.

Eze laughed in response, before composing himself to say: “I’m pretty sure. I’m pretty sure I did.”

To further rub salt in the wounds, Eze then said in an interview with Sky Sports that his favourite moment of the season actually came in a match against Spurs.

“The second game against Tottenham,” Eze responded. “The first game, of course, hat-trick’s incredible and I know that’s a special moment.

“But the second game, I think because of the lead-up into that, personally. What I was going through, the momentum, and the phase that I was in. For me, that game was like a big shift.

“I felt that in myself, in the team as well. For me, that’s probably my favourite moment.”

Though Eze could only manage a brace away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, compared to his hat-trick at the Emirates, his answer nonetheless makes sense.

At the Emirates, Eze came into the game already holding a starting role in the Arsenal team. But before for the away game, Eze had only started one of the previous 11 league matches – and he’d been subbed off at half-time on that occasion.

So Eze went away to Spurs with a point to prove, in front of the home supporters who had so vehemently turned on him following his decision to reject them and his subsequent hat-trick against them.

With Arsenal winning 4-1 once again, and Eze winning back his spot in the lineup, it’s not hard to see why it felt so good.
